Description
A delicious and beautifully simple focaccia featuring sweet, spiced apples on a soft and airy sourdough base.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup Sourdough starter
- 3 cups All-purpose flour
- 1 cup Warm water
- 2 cups Apples (mixed sweet and tart)
- 1/4 cup Sugar
- 1 tsp Cinnamon
- 3 tbsp Olive oil
- 1 tsp Salt
Instructions
- Prepare the apples: Peel, core, and slice your apples, then toss them in sugar and cinnamon. Let them mingle while you prep your dough.
- Make the dough: In a large bowl, combine your sourdough starter, warm water, flour, sugar, and salt. Mix until just combined, then let it rest for about 30 minutes.
- Knead the dough: Knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes until it’s elastic. Place it in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise until doubled—this usually takes about 1 to 2 hours.
- Incorporate the apples: Gently deflate the dough, then fold in the apple mixture, making sure every piece is well-distributed.
- Shape and second rise: Transfer the dough to a greased baking dish. Spread it out gently, cover, and let it rise again for about 30-45 minutes.
- Bake: Preheat your oven and slide the focaccia in for about 25-30 minutes until golden and puffy.
- Cool and enjoy: Let it cool slightly before slicing.
Notes
Serve warm with honey or vanilla ice cream. It pairs well with coffee or tea.
