Description
A colorful and flavorful southern fried cabbage dish that elevates your meals with a rich seasoning profile and tender cabbage.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 small to medium head of green cabbage, sliced thinly
- 1 cup of beef, chopped or ground
- 1 medium onion, sliced
- 3 cloves of garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons of olive oil or beef fat
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar
- Optional: a pinch of red pepper flakes for heat
Instructions
- Heat your olive oil or beef fat in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add the beef, cooking until browned and fully cooked. Drain any excess fat if necessary.
- Toss in the sliced onions and cook until they start to turn translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
- Next, stir in the minced garlic and red pepper flakes (if using). Let it sizzle for about 30 seconds.
- Add the sliced cabbage, seasoning with salt and pepper. Mix everything well, letting the cabbage wilt down (about 5-7 minutes).
- Splash in the apple cider vinegar. Stir and help the cabbage absorb that tangy magic. Cook for another couple of minutes.
- Taste and adjust seasoning as needed.
Notes
Serve with grilled chicken or shrimp, or enjoy with warm cornbread. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.
